Steuben Parade marches off September 21st

German-Americans all over the country are getting ready for the 56th Steuben Parade on Saturday, September 21st. In addition to the many groups from the tri-state area, organizers are expecting twenty music, dance and karneval groups from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plus German-American groups from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Florida.

"We are expecting a great variety of groups for another wonderful Steuben Parade", said Parade Chairman Lars Halter, who is not only excited about the parade itself, but is actively promoting a series of events stretching the entire Steuben Parade weekend.

Friday, September 20th, starts with a greeting ceremony for the guests from overseas at 11.30 am at Foley Square Park. The same day will see the Steuben Parade Gala at the New York Hilton, where the Grand Marshals will be introduced. Tickets are available now in our web store. Tickets are $250 regular with an "Early Bird" price of $200 if ordered no later than August 15th, 2013. VIP tickets are available for $500, also in the web store.

Parade day will start with mass at St. Patrick´s Cathedral at 9.30 AM; the Steuben Parade marches off at 12 Noon and will go from 68th to 86th Street. In good German-American tradition, the parade is followed by the Oktoberfest in Central Park. Tickets will be available starting July 15th, 2013.

Figure Skating with Norbert SchrammOn a recent night, the German-American Committee went ice skating with Olympic Legend and 2012 Steuben Parade Grand Marshal, Norbert Schramm. It was one of the last great night on beautiful Wollman Rink in Central Park, with temperatures high enough for a stroll but still cold enough to preserve the ice. Guests of the Committee were met personally by Norbert Schramm in an exclusive warm-up tent, where the famous skater gave some quick remarks about his career and word of encouragement to all who wanted to try their luck that night under professional supervision.more
